New Lessons on Anxiety

By

My boyfriend asked me for
lessons on anxiety:
What triggered it?
How could he help?

He became a pro planner.
What do you want for dinner?
Do we still have lavender tea
in the pantry?

He became a keen listener.
Did I get that right?
I see you have to rest;
no need to drop by.

Even with a life vest,
I worried about drowning.
But he led me into the water
one step at a time.

Even with no car of his own,
he drove me to my grandma’s.
Seeing her enjoy his barbecue
filled my heart to the brim.

When he met me,
I shook from a fear of heights.
But his firmness eased the doubt
from my step, from my smile.

When I met him,
he shook my hand with an easy grip.
Instead of asking me to stop trembling,
he steadied me with an embrace.
