My body is broken and bent
limbs wracked and rent
pain is my closest family
simple mundane shit is hard for me
This pen--
a spear
This book--
a shield to hide behind
My myopic view of the world is
cynical and defiant
My knuckles crack, bones shard,
my joints are unreliant
Depressed and
a mess
because I can't tie my shoes at twenty-seven
"Have you tried yoga?"
"I don't believe in medicine."
"Have you tried having less sex?"
"You are so lucky to be alive."
"I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do."
"I need more evidence."
"I need positive test results."
"Have you tried Ibuprofen/Advil/weed?"
"Have you tried not being in pain?"
