A place for stories about chronic illness, disability, mental health, and neurodivergence.
I’m a BIPOC, ADHD, disabled superhero who’s on the hunt for my spotlight. I’ve been to the top of a volcano and the bottom of the sea. I’ve had my memory stolen from me and had to relearn how to read, write, walk, and talk. I’ve danced with the devil and resisted his call, and so, my soul remains mine. My short-fiction multi-genre series Good Tales for Bad Dreams has received multiple awards, topped Amazon’s charts in different genres, and garnered critical acclaim from Australia’s Chrysalis BREW, Toronto Public Library, and the Ontario Writers’ Conference, among other outlets. The entire Good Tales For Bad Dreams series is currently part of Indie Ontario’s Best of Independent Fiction collection. My short story “Till Death Do Us Part” was longlisted for the Iridescence Award by Kinsman Quarterly, a literary magazine highlighting fiction of cultural significance by authors of color. It was also adapted into an audio play by The Morbid Forest and will be published in Perseid Prophecies January 2025 issue. My short fiction has appeared in the Flash of the Dead anthology from Wicked Shadow Press, The Insurgence Magazine, Paddler’s Press, Visionary Magazine, and TBMHorror.com. My short story “In Orbit” won a cash prize and placement in The Presence Award collection by Kinsman Quarterly. My short story “First Can On Mars” is featured in The Best Climate Fiction collection, which was released in October 2024. Originally from Georgetown, Guyana, I currently reside in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with my lovely wife and 3 cats. Learn more at https://vmsawh.my.canva.site/.
In this short, speculative story by V.M. Sawh, insurance is even more of a nightmare than it is IRL.
