All In My Head

By

it’s all in my head
he said

but what folks feel
in their heads
manifests in their bodies

stress and anxiety
are known malignancies
slowly destroying their host
organ by organ

it’s all in my head
he said
an internet search can’t compete
with medical school

but his superficial lecture
on my condition
can’t compete with
my twenty-five years of experience
living with it

it’s all in my head
he said
as he wields words
(his sexist ableism)
and limits my access to care
with phrases like
“hysterical” and “psychosomatic”
but that’s probably all in my head, too
